Can I Use Outdoor Soil For Indoor Plants? Here Is The Answer

Lots of new gardeners are confused about whether can i use outdoor soil for indoor plants or not. Do indoor plants grow in outdoor soils, etc.

To get the answer to this question, I also read lots of articles on Google and Bing.

To test the answer, I did an experiment to satisfy myself that it is really possible to grow indoor plants using outdoor soil or not.

After getting the result, I wrote this article to show my experience with this question.

In this article, I am not only answering the question of whether can i use outdoor soil for indoor plants or not, but also I will discuss with you what is the difference between indoor and outdoor potting mix.

Without taking any second, let’s dive into the topic.

Can I Use Outdoor Soil For Indoor Plants

Well, its single answer is yes. You can easily use the outdoor soil for indoor plants.

But I don’t recommend you to use the outdoor soils for indoor plants now why I am not suggesting this to do this.

Well, there are lots of reasons why I don’t suggest you do this. The first thing is indoor plants need proper nutrition as compared to outdoor plants, and the nutrition does not fully fill the outdoor soils.

The second reason is indoor soils are quickly dry, and on the other hand, outdoor soils take some time for drying.

The main reason why I don’t recommend you to use outdoor soils for indoor plants is that outdoor soils are quickly observed in water as compared to indoor soils, which are not suitable for indoor plants.

Another reason is outdoor soils are too heavy as compared to indoor soils. Because outdoor soils are made with large particles such as rocks, outdoor soils contain lots of heavy nutrition, which is harmful to indoor plants.

Outdoor soils don’t provide your indoor plants with the sufficient amount of nutrition that the plant needs.

These are some reasons why I don’t recommend you to use outdoor soils for indoor plants.

Now, let’s talk about exactly what I get in my experiments.

What Result I Will Get In My Experiment?

Can I Use Outdoor Soil For Indoor Plants

First of all, I use two plants on different soils. I plant the trees on both indoor soil and outdoor soil.

I take care of both plants using the same strategy, such as giving them water, applying some compost, etc.

I will continue doing this work for one month.

After one month, I saw the results on both outdoor soil plants and indoor soil plants.

The indoor soil plant tree is bigger and fresher than the outdoor soil tree.

On the other hand, the outdoor soil plant did not grow properly as compared to the indoor soil trees.

This experiment proves that you can use outdoor soil for your indoor plants, but it will not give you proper nutrition and proper growth for your plant.

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor potting mix?

The key difference between indoor and outdoor potting mix is that outdoor potting mix is made with large particles such as rocks, and on the other hand, indoor potting mix is made with small particles.

Also, outdoor particles don’t quickly drain water as compared to indoor soils. Now, the main question is which soil is best for your plants.

Well, according to my experience, I will suggest you use outdoor soils for outdoor plants and indoor soils for indoor plants.

What soil to use for indoor plants?

I will highly suggest you use organic compost soils for your indoor plants. Now, do you think that is why I suggest you use this?

Because indoor soils quickly drain the water, which is suitable for indoor plants. On the other hand, outdoor soils contain large particles, and they contain over moisturizer, which is not suitable for your indoor plants.

It doesn’t provide that much sufficient nutrition to grow your indoor plants properly. For this reason, I strongly suggest you use organic compost soils for your indoor plants.
